GONZALES — Glass cases in a hall at East Ascension High School contain the photos and memorabilia of athletes and longtime school supporters dating back to the school’s first graduating class.
That case will have a few more photos soon as the newest members of the school’s Hall of Fame and Wall of Fame are inducted Friday night.
Three former EA athletes will be inducted in the school’s Hall of Fame, and a business and two others will be named to the Wall of Fame during pregame ceremonies Friday in Spartan Stadium, event organizer Jamie Andrews said.

GONZALES — Glass cases in a hall at East Ascension High School contain the photos and memorabilia of athletes and longtime school supporters dating back to the school’s first graduating class.
That case will have a few more photos soon as the newest members of the school’s Hall of Fame and Wall of Fame are inducted Friday night.
Three former EA athletes will be inducted in the school’s Hall of Fame, and a business and two others will be named to the Wall of Fame during pregame ceremonies Friday in Spartan Stadium, event organizer Jamie Andrews said.
In addition to the usual spirit exhibited for the school’s homecoming game, Andrews said, Friday night’s game is special because “it’s our 500th game in the history of Spartan football.”
The school’s traditions and history will be spotlighted during a pregame reception held near the stadium.
Many of the 36 Hall of Fame and 32 Wall of Fame inductees will join in the celebration, she said.
“And some of our past coaches plan to attend,” she said.
This year’s Hall of Fame inductees are EA basketball and track star Sherrl Lynn Andrews, a 2001 graduate; and football stand-outs from the class of 1990, Adrien Claiborne and Scotty Stafford.
Andrews, who earned a scholarship to Southern University, was part of the school’s only team to win a track state championship.
During his high school football career, Claiborne, who received a football scholarship to play at Southern University, earned district honors for his offensive and defensive play.
Stafford was named the football district most valuable player and his baseball talents earned him a scholarship to Northwestern State University. Today, he works as the baseball coach for Ascension Christian High School.
The Wall of Fame recipients are Barbara Ann “Malaika” Favorite, Tyler Villar and Marchand’s Interior and Hardware Specialists.
Specially designed T-shirts commemorating the 500th game will be worn by students, and Jamie Andrews is hoping alumni will come out to join in the celebration.
“As a faculty, one of the things we stress to our students is the long and proud tradition of being a part of the East Ascension culture,” Andrews said. “Our alumni and our current students truly bleed blue and yellow.”
